Villa Taijasa stands beneath a great timber roof, with stone floors, pottery and plants, and folding glass that opens the whole hall to the garden. Outside, a twenty-metre pool runs the length of the lawn, long enough to swim properly.

Guests speak of a concierge who arranges everything, from drivers and massages to a chef for the evening, and of a team who greet them with fresh fruit and remember birthdays. The lane is quiet, with rice fields across the road, yet the restaurants of Seminyak and Canggu are a few minutes away.

Villa Taijasa is a two-storey house beneath a soaring timber roof, in the quiet rice-field lanes of Umalas. A twenty-metre pool runs the length of the lawn, with sun loungers along its edge and a table for dinner beneath the bougainvillea. Inside, a vaulted living hall with stone floors, pottery and plants opens through folding glass to the garden, beside a full kitchen and a long dining table. Five en-suite bedrooms, one reached by its own double stair with a private balcony.
